During an ANSA.it (National Associated Press Agency) launch, leading roles were played by the 20th anniversary celebrations since the Destriero world record Atlantic ocean crossing (coast to coast in 2 days, 10 hours and 24 minutes). Through the article you’ll find the link to the news.
Here are the impressive specifications of the Destriero:
Aluminium Monohull (single chime hullform type) powered by three General Electric gas turbines, able to produce an overall power of 51.675 hp; Full load sailing range of more than 3.000 nautical miles at a speed of more than 40 knot, reaching a maximum speed of more than 60 knots in light displacement.
Loa (length over all) of 68 mt, Lpp (length between perpendiculars) of 60 mt and a beam of 13 mt. According to the classification society Det Norske Veritas, the structure of the Destriero enabled a speed of 65 knots with Douglas scale level 4 and up to 30 knots in level 5-6.
But what does the Destriero’s got to do with AL CUSTOM‘s fisherman?
A lot, a real lot! This state-of-the-art technology model, that is still the holder of an unbeaten world record but has also left a mark in the nautical history, has been designed by Lou Codega! The same Lou Codega, designer of the whole AL CUSTOM project and “father” of the brand new, small but technologically advanced, AL19.
Past and present, the secrets of success: high design competences, an in-depth research on materials and components and the ambition to dare beyond limits.
